{Wander Away} Palm Springs: A Foxy Vintage Store in the Desert
by Wander Woman on Jul.29, 2011, under Quirky Places
My galpal and I motored to Palm Springs for a weekend of sun, leisure and lady bonding.
We basked like lizards by a desert pool and drank $4 Indian-casino cocktails. It was perfect.
Our best discovery during the trip was this cuhhrazy vintage shop called The Fine Art of Design.
The store is a treasure chest of designer and non-designer castoffs from rich or funky Palm Springs octogenarians. Flowery ’60s dresses, Victorian-esque frocks, vintage Louis Vuitton – whoa my gawd, we had died and gone to sweet, upscale thrift-store heaven.
The prices are far lower than I expected – compared to the overhyped vintage stores in L.A. and San Fran – and the merchandise is in perfect condition.
Luisa, one of the owners, said she gets the clothes from her personal collection (she’s a vintage junkie) as well as from dealers and local residents wanting to lighten their closet.

TFAD co-owner Luisa. She gave us lots of personal attention, espeically since we weren't sure how to wear many of the clothes! She's a sweetheart.
I don’t hit up many vintage stores these days, but this fun shop has renewed my interest. Check it out if you’re ever in Palm Desert.
P.S. There’s a seriously cute, puffy white dog who patrols the store and watches for theft. I think her name is Nina. Adorable.

This vintage store is amazing! And the ladies who own it are absolutely lovely. I love that you used “foxy” as an adjective to describe it… so accurate! And the shop dog really is adorable. And very docile. I think she was napping the entire time (almost 2 hrs!) we were there;)
